The rise of agentic engineering has led to a change in day-to-day tooling. We used to live in the IDE, doing everything inside it and dreaming of doing everything without leaving it because we would lose time. Now there are CLIs, harnesses, dedicated apps, and code review tools that allows to cover the full development lifecycle without even opening an IDE. Is the IDE not needed anymore, or is it just changing and evolving into something else? In this session, we'll see how to develop Android apps without using Android Studio directly: agents driven from a CLI or an app, code reviewed in dedicated tools, validation run through the Android CLI, emulators created from the command line, and agents debugging themselves with ADB and logcat. We'll also look at how custom instructions can give those agents guardrails. But this won't only be a practical session; we will try to understand what an IDE means and how its shape is changing in this new era of software development.
