With the release of Flutter 2, the official support for the web platform seemed to provide an excellent opportunity: being able to use the existing code base of a mobile app and just run on an additional platform that is even more accessible to users around the world.

Using the popular word game 4 Pics 1 Word as an example, this talk will outline the basic considerations we had to take into account when developing the new web version of our app for Facebook Instant Games with Flutter. What were the challenges that we faced when trying to achieve near-native performance with each web renderer? What tricks did we use to finally manage to release our app? And what future improvements could make the web engine really fly?
